What does Executive Function support look like?

I am guessing you’ve already typed into the search bar “executive function support near me?”

That’s because this year it has been our #1 requested area of support!

More and more families are recognizing they need help and want their students to embrace their school work and home responsibilities in a more effective way.

Parents often tell me that THEY are their child’s executive function!

They want a better way going forward that is sustainable and effective.

As parents we want to know what is going on and how to help so that our support is meaningful. We want to be speaking the language they need afor their best experience in their learning journey. I really needed this when my kids were younger!

Simply giving a student a “new way to study for the test” or “take better notes” will not fix the problem. Our expert team carefully explores what is happening for the student, assesses current systems and methods, watches for any missing or weak cognitive learning skills without judgement or assumptions.

Students need time to practice and execute the new ideas & strategies to begin building new habits.

Our Executive Function program typically runs for 5-6 months and pulls from 4 main sources.* These trusted sources provide wonderful insights both for students and parents in their support role.

MindPrint Learning is one resource we use with each student. This detailed and comprehensive report measures the 10 cognitive functions that impact learning. Your student’s unique list of strategies and tips are a fantastic place to begin. We find that by focusing on a students strengths and using them to support their weaker areas build confidence and self esteem.

Program topics include:

  • task management

  • listening skills

  • problem solving

  • task management

  • study habits

  • organization

  • logic and reasoning

  • planning

  • time management

  • tracking and checklists

  • test taking strategies

  • emotional regulation

  • follow through systems

  • pacing

  • study space set up and more.

Each topic invites the student to discuss and address what is going well, learn new systems and practice, practice, practice… then report back weekly for evaluation.

If you are hoping and praying your student will learn new skills but are finding the tension at home is getting in the way, please reach out.

If you suspect there may be more going on behind the concerns you have, lets talk about it.

We would love to partner with you to not only evaluate what may be contributing to the struggles, but also get on board with your student to help them get the results they need.

Learning Executive Function skills allows for better self advocating and brings hope to both parent and student.

This program is wonderful as a stand alone course or alongside specific academic support.
